Self care is more than just treating yourself to a bar of chocolate
What do you think of when you hear the words ‘self care’?
A bar of chocolate? A bubble bath? Pamper session?
Of course these are all perfectly acceptable forms of self care but are they enough? The short answer is no. Of course I love sitting on the sofa with a tub of Hotel Chocolat salted caramel puddles (if you haven’t tried them they are lush!) but self care has to be more than the odd treat here and there.
Self care should be a part of our daily lives. It’s about prioritising our mental, physical and emotional health every single day.
If you’ve recently experienced a divorce or break-up your self care might have been neglected. I know mine was - when I went through my divorce I lived on Rice Krispies and put on my happy face every morning for my then 6 year old daughter - it was hell.
How many times have you been bed ridden with a virus because you haven’t been looking after yourself? So many of us are guilty of this. We keep going and going and going until we can’t.
We have to stop doing this.
Here are three things you can do everyday to ensure your self-care is being prioritised:
- Have a morning routine and don’t do anything before you’ve completed your routine. It might look like this: breakfast, 10 min meditation, walk.
- Take regular breaks during the day
- Drink lots of water
Self care doesn’t have to take up hours of your day and it needn’t cost a penny. Your future self will thank you for it. Trust me x
